Fundraising for Delta Zeta

This past year I became the fundraising chair for Delta Zeta, Iota Rho chapter. Despite the pandemic we face, there are still many ways to raise money. Some of the ideas needed are more creative than others. Most importantly I have to think about the good of the chapter, and what will help make the most money. DZ gives so much to other people and our philanthropy, that I make sure to give back to the organization.
I have faced a few challenges this year as fundraising chair, but the most prominent has been COVID-19 restrictions. Due to fewer people on campus and in town, virtual fundraisers have been the most consistent fundraisers we are able to do. While we still have been successful from dine and donates (we made just over $400 from Chipotle), restaurants only allow a certain percentage of occupancy. I noticed while fundraising at Rams Head Bar and Grill that the restaurant was not at full capacity or open as late as it would have been usually if there was no pandemic. We can’t set up tables on campus because we cannot ensure social distancing. This means no campus bake sales.
In order to combat the restrictions placed, I tried to brainstorm ways to raise money. One fundraiser that we are currently doing now is a dare board. The board has a list of dares, and people venmo the girls for them to complete the dares. Personally, myself and other sisters have found this to be an extremely fun way to raise money for the organization we love. I got this idea from the Delta Zeta chapter at Temple University, and wanted to give it a try.
To anyone who is looking to hold a position, I’d highly recommend becoming the fundraising chair. This is an excellent way to be involved, but not flooded with responsibilities. Fundraising is also a good way to see if you’d like a position on the executive board as well. It is rewarding to be able to give back to such a great organization and to involve other campus organizations too.
